Industrial Sewing Machine Operator

Pay Rate: $19–$21.50/hr.
Location: Worcester, MA 01606
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Sewing Machine Operator to join our production team. This position is responsible for operating sewing machines to produce high-quality soft goods using patterns, samples, and written work instructions.

The ideal candidate will have prior sewing or stitching experience, strong attention to detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work with a variety of materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate commercial/industrial sewing machines to complete production work.
• Perform a variety of stitching techniques, including straight stitch, zigzag, serging, and binding .
• Work from patterns, samples, and written work instructions.
• Sew a variety of materials, including nylon, canvas-type materials, and thick rubber-like materials.
• Carefully guide materials through the sewing machine while maintaining consistent quality.
• Accurately measure materials using fractions and decimals.
• Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and consistency.
• Follow all safety procedures and production guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Communicate production issues or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of sewing, stitching, or related production experience preferred.
• Experience operating commercial or industrial sewing machines preferred.
• Ability to perform various stitching techniques, including zigzag, serge, and binding.
• Comfortable working with different types and thicknesses of materials.
• Ability to read and work from patterns, samples, and written instructions.
• Strong understanding of U.S. measurements, including fractions and decimals .
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow directions and work consistently in a production environment.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent use of hands and fingers to guide materials through sewing machines.
• Ability to maintain visual attention to small details for extended periods.
• Ability to handle and manipulate various materials during production.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 20 pounds .
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods as required by production activities.

Work Environment

• Production environment with regular use of commercial sewing equipment.
• Safety glasses may be required and will be provided if needed.
• May occasionally be exposed to dust, heat, and other typical production-environment conditions.
• Employees are expected to follow all workplace safety procedures.
